UEFA Champions League group stage draw 2019/20 telecast in India: When and where to watch CL draw. Here’s everything you need to know about the event.
The UEFA Champions league is an annual club football competition that pits the best clubs of Europe against each other until only one remains. It is Europe’s premier showpiece event and one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world.
It is scheduled to begin in all earnest by the 17th of September. But before that, there are formalities to take care of, such as deciding who will face who in the group stage. This is done by drawing lots which will be aired on television for the world to witness. With that out of the way, let us look to answer some of the most commonly asked questions.
When is Champions League Draw 2019/20?
The Champions League group stage draw will begin on Thursday 29th August at 18:00 CET and 22:30 (IST). The Ceremony will take place at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.
Where will the UEFA Champions League group stage draw 2019/20 telecast in India?
The Event will be streamed live on UEFA.com. In India, the viewers can watch the ceremony on Sony Ten2, Ten 2HD and Sonyliv.
Who will be seeded and how?
There are 4 pots from which the lots will be drawn. One team from each pot will be placed in a group of 4 until all 8 groups are full. The teams confirmed for the tournament so far are:
ESP: Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, Valencia
ENG: Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur
ITA: Juventus, Napoli, Internazionale Milano, Atalanta
GER: Bayern München, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig
FRA: Paris, Lyon, LOSC Lille
RUS: Zenit, Lokomotiv Moskva
UKR: Shakhtar Donetsk
They will be joined 6 more teams from the play-offs.
Important points to note:
- No team can play a club from their own association in the group stage.
- Clubs from Russia and Ukraine will not be drawn in the same group.
Teams and Pots
So far, only the first pot is known in its entirety. Holder’s Liverpool are joined by Europa League winners Chelsea and the national Champions of UEFA’s top 6 countries. They are, Barcelona, Manchester City, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Zenit.
The remaining pots will be determined by the club coefficient rankings.
When will the games be played?
Matchday 1: Sep. 17-18
Matchday 2: Oct. 1-2
Matchday 3: Oct. 22-23
Matchday 4: Nov. 5-6
Matchday 5: Nov. 26-27
Matchday 6: Dec. 10-11
The Round of 16 Draw will be announced on the 16th of December while the Quarter final and Semi-final draw is scheduled for 20th March. The Final will take place 30th May at the Atatürk Olimpiyat Stadı, Istanbul.
