UFC welterweight contender Belal Muhammad is not one for seeing a rematch between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman. Muhammad has amassed an impressive 9-fight win streak and obviously wants his dig at the division gold.
“If you want to make this a real sport, there’s no rematches once you lose the Super Bowl. You lose the Super Bowl, you lost the Super Bowl, that’s it,” Muhammad said on a recent Instagram live chat.
He reasoned that in the super bowl, football teams don’t get another chance just because they lost to a lucky pass and neither should Usman. Muhammad suggested that the former champ work his way up to a challenger’s spot and move out of the title picture for him.
“Usman, sit down a little bit, relax, heal up, [and] let me fight Leon Edwards,” he continued.

The matchup between current champ Edwards and then champ Usman at UFC 278 was almost a one-sided show. That was until Edwards landed a spectacular head kick that ended things for ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’.
Given the circumstances and the fact that Usman was on to his 6th title defense before getting KOed by Edwards, the UFC is looking at an immediate rematch.
However, Muhammad wants to put his name ahead of the former welterweight champ. He put UFC welterweight Sean Brady’s undefeated streak to a stop in the second round and got himself a performance of the night for it too.
Has Belal Muhammad Ever Faced Off Against Leon Edwards?
Belal Muhammad and Leon Edwards have faced off once before in March 2021. But that contest ended with an accidental eye poke. Since then, he has picked up four straight wins and wants to be back in title fight highlight reels.
However, he also has to contend with welterweight competitors like Khamzat Chimaev and Muhammad has the same manager as Usman in Ali Abdelaziz. This may put a spanner in the works for Muhammad but this remains to be seen.
