Nate Diaz won his final fight at UFC 279 against Tony Ferguson and announced his retirement from the UFC. The 37-year-old hasn’t yet disclosed his next course of action, though. As a result, his fans are left wondering what will be his next move.
After leaving the UFC, the Stockton slugger has too many possibilities, including a WWE debut and a boxing showdown. However, UFC legend Chael Sonnen believes a return to the UFC is also on the table for the Californian.
Chael Sonnen says Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor is a possibility
Sonnen a retired UFC fighter now works as an analyst of the sport. Thus, the former UFC title challenger is aware of most of the ins and out of the promotion.

Recently in an interview with Ariel Helwani, the former UFC fighter talked about Diaz’s UFC return. Sonnen believes Diaz wants to return to the promotion for the third clash with UFC superstar Conor McGregor.
Despite that, ‘The American Gangsta,’ however, didn’t rule out a boxing crossover possibility against Floyd Mayweather or Jake Paul. “I’m trying to say is all options are on the table, but that option is also to return to the UFC and to fight Conor McGregor,” Sonnen said.
“He would not just be coming back. There would be a brand new and fresh conversation to be had and I think he wants to have that conversation. Yeah, I think it’s leading the way,” Sonnen added.
The McGregor vs. Diaz saga
When talking about the greatest fights in the history of UFC one just cannot miss out on McGregor vs. Diaz. Their clash brought in many eyes from around the globe because of the popularity of both fighters.
Diaz ended up winning the battle against the Irishman at UFC 196. The rematch at 202 also generated same amount of fireworks inside the UFC cage. However, this time ‘The Notorious’ bested Diaz.
As the score was even (1-1) between both fighters fans wanted to see a third clash. However, that didn’t happen due to many reasons. Interestingly both Diaz and McGregor has many times agreed on the trilogy in several interviews. Hence, given the popularity of both fights a trilogy is very likely to happen.
