Conor McGregor is undoubtedly the biggest star the sport of MMA has ever seen. The Irishman had one of the most historic runs in the UFC. He also went on to become the first person to hold two belts simultaneously. However, his recent years have been quite troublesome. McGregor has won just one of his last four fights. And ended up suffering a gruesome injury in his last bout, which was back in 2021. Earlier this year, it was announced that Conor McGregor would be returning to the Octagon to face Michael Chandler.

However, a date and venue for the fight is yet to be announced. Interestingly, it doesn’t look like the fight is going to happen anytime soon, as McGregor doesn’t even look like he has started training yet.

Addressing the same, UFC president Dana White recently spoke about why it is difficult to get fighters like McGregor to fight. He also used a Khabib Nurmagomedov example to explain the same.

Dana White claims it’s hard to get Conor McGregor to fight again

The fact that Conor McGregor has stupendous amounts of money is known to all. And because of the same reason, Dana White believes it is hard to get him to fight.

While speaking about when the fight between McGregor and Chandler will happen, White drew parallels between the Irishman and his biggest rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and said:

“The one thing you guys have to understand is this kid has so much money. It’s like Khabib now. These guys got sh*tloads of money and it’s hard to reel these guys in and get them fired up to get in and fight.”

White sounds correct as McGregor, during the start of his career, looked like an unstoppable train. However, once he reached the peak, with MMA McGregor diverted his focus towards other endeavors as well. Since then, ‘The Notorious’ has not looked the same inside the cage. Nevertheless, he has earned a ton of money and is aiming for more.

McGregor wants to overtake Michael Jordan as the highest-paid athlete of all time

Despite having a fortune that is enough to last generations, McGregor is motivated to earn even more. In a recently released list by Sportico, the Irishman was ranked No.33 on the list of highest-paid athletes of all time.

The list was topped by Michael Jordan, who has amassed $3.3 billion in his career. During a recent interview with Megan Olivi, the former UFC champion spoke about how he fancies his chances of getting to the top of the list despite being roughly $2.6 billion away from it.

With the recent pace in his career, McGregor might achieve the billionaire mark. But surpassing Jordan is much more difficult. That said, it will be interesting to see if McGregor’s wishes come true in the future or not.

What are your thoughts on McGregor’s wish? Do you guys think he will surpass Jordan? What do you think about Dana White’s words?
