"He's not a real fighter" - Nate Diaz Slams Khabib Nurmagomedov's Early Retirement

Every parent who has had a great profession would frequently desire his child to follow in their footsteps. However, that is not the same with Khabib Nurmagomedov, a father of three. With an unbeaten 29-0 record, ‘The Eagle’ is widely regarded as one of the best MMA fighters of all time. The former UFC lightweight champion earned more than $21 million from his MMA career while enjoying global fame. Despite his incredible career, Nurmagomedov will not impose it on his children.

The Russian MMA icon is the father of three children, two sons and one girl. He rarely talks about his personal life in public. However, with MMA in his lineage, many fans wonder if his children would follow in his footsteps. Nurmagomedov, on the other hand, leaves it up to them to decide.

Khabib Nurmagomedov on his kids taking up MMA

Khabib Nurmagomedov has defeated some of the most skilled lightweight opponents. In 2018, his fourth-round submission victory against Conor McGregor earned him his first six-figure payout.

His final two fights before retirement were likewise successful, earning the former UFC champion roughly $12 million in total. According to MMA Salaries, Nurmagomedov has earned more than $21 million in his MMA career.

Despite this fame and fortune, Nurmagomedov will not force MMA on his children. The Russian great recently sat down for an exclusive chat with Patrick Bet-David, where he addressed a question regarding his kids’ professions. He said:

“Honestly, I’m gonna let him choose… I’m still boss. But I’m gonna let him choose… About professional life, I’m not gonna force him at all…I am world champion and I’m not hungry to make my kids become world champion… But I don’t know what my son gonna choose.”

However, Khabib Nurmagomedov went on to say that if his boys decided to pursue MMA, he would undoubtedly assist them. He has also done the same for his teammates and family.

‘The Eagle’ as a coach

Following his retirement in 2020, the former UFC lightweight champion became a coach, mostly since his father passed away before his final bout against Justin Gaethje.

Nurmagomedov, like his fighting career, had an incredible coaching run before he took a break earlier this year. Under his tutelage, UFC fighter Islam Makhachev won the lightweight championship and successfully defended his championship.

Apart from Islam Makhachev, numerous other fighters on his squad, notably his cousin Umar and Usman Nurmagomedov, performed well under Khabib’s tutelage.

Thus, it is safe to state that, like his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, Khabib will be a huge help to his children if they decide to follow MMA as a career.
