Claressa Shields admits getting advice from Conor McGregor was shocking, and said she did not understand what McGregor was trying to convey.
Conor McGregor is undisputedly the most recognized MMA figure right now and his accolades in the field suggest that he is also one of the greatest to ever step inside the Octagon.
With a fight experience of more than 12 years, the Notorious one knows the game inside out and hence he is apparently an institute who can impart knowledge of the finest kind. So, when recently the budding MMA athlete and a former olympian Claressa Shields was seen in stills getting an MMA lesson from former Light-Heavyweight champion Jon Jones, Conor McGregor also willingly contributed to her learning with a piece of advice.
Conor McGregor’s Advice
The Irishman took to Instagram to throw a comment on a post, which featured UFC superstar Jon Jones with Shields at Jackson Wink MMA Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
“Teach her balancing on the single-leg first! Warm-up/warm-down for EVERY session – Pick the single leg and move her around. Elevate the leg high. Push her back with it. Lower it forward etc etc. Get her real cozy hopping on that single leg! Improve her hamstring flexibility as well as balancing ability. Crucial going forward! Have her play with her punching while bouncing on the single also. Finding the target of the temple of the person moving her leg around! Think coziness! Good luck Clarissa! Excited to see you progress!”
Claressa Shields Shocked
In an interview with Heavy, Claressa Shields revealed she was shocked to see Conor’s comment, and implied while it was an honor to get his attention but, at the same time she did not understand what he meant initially.
Shields disclosed that Jon Jones and a fan helped her get a sense of what Conor McGregor conveyed.
“To get the advice from Conor McGregor was shocking!” Shields said. “You know? [Jon Jones] explained it to me, and I got a better sense, but one of the MMA fans actually inboxed me and said ‘Hey, this is the video that Conor McGregor was talking about…”
Shields added, “Believe it or not, a lot of MMA fans may talk s***, but they’re also very informational. When he wrote all that stuff, of course, I didn’t know what the hell he was talking about,”
So, while McGregor’s advice was overwhelming to Claressa Shields but there is an area where roles can be reversed and Shields can in-turn become the guide.
Claressa Shields is a two-time Olympic gold medallist in Boxing and it is the branch of fighting which Conor McGregor is expected to explore in the foreseeable future.
