Formula 1 has seen a meteoric rise in its popularity over recent years. This weekend, the drivers are gearing up for arguably the most highly anticipated race of the calendar, the Monaco Grand Prix. Adding to the excitement of the event, UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has placed big bets on the race.

The 78-lap event is set to take place on May 28th at the Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo. Ahead of the much-anticipated race, let’s look at Adesanya’s bets on his favorite drivers.

Israel Adesanya wagers on Lewis Hamilton and others

‘The Last Stylebender’ recently took to Twitter. And revealed that he has placed three bets on this weekend’s F1 Monaco Grand Prix. The UFC middleweight champion’s first bet is on Lewis Hamilton to finish in the top three. He has placed $10k for the same.

Hamilton is a seven-time world champion and is widely considered to be one of the greatest racing drivers of all time. Going into the Monaco GP, he is currently standing 4th in the driver’s standing for the season. Showing his bets, Adesanya wrote on Twitter:

“What’s at @stake for the Grand Prix?!! Had to go with my team Stake drivers for points too.”

For his second bet, Adesanya has backed both the drivers of the Alfa Romeo F1 team, Zhou Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas, to finish in the top 10. If the UFC middleweight champion wins all three of his bets, he will walk away with over $70k.

When is Israel Adesanya fighting again?

The UFC middleweight champion was last seen in action back in April earlier this year. He took on Alex Pereira in a highly anticipated rematch. Having lost his middleweight champion to the Brazilian last year, the stakes were very high for ‘The Last Stylebender.’

Interestingly, he showed up big time. Israel Adesanya knocked out Alex Pereira in the second round of the fight to reclaim his UFC middleweight championship.

Since then, it has been made pretty evident that Adesanya will defend his championship against either Dricus Du Plessis or Robert Whittaker. The two are set to lock horns at UFC 290. And the winner of the bout is slated to be next in line for a shot at the UFC middleweight championship.

Robert Whittaker has fought Israel Adesanya twice in the past, losing both. Meanwhile, Dricus Du Plessis will present a new challenge that ‘The Last Stylebender’ has been looking for for a while now.

Who do you think is a better opponent for Izzy Dricus Du Plessis or Robert Whittaker? What are your thoughts on Izzy’s bet?
