Petr Yan decimates Jose Aldo to become new Bantamweight Champion at UFC 251

Petr Yan decimates Jose Aldo to become new Bantamweight Champion at UFC 251. He is the second UFC champion from Russia after Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Jose Aldo put on an inspired effort at UFC 251 against Petr Yan in their bout for the vacant Bantamweight championship. However, it wasn’t enough to stop Yan who fought his way to the top of the bantamweight division with a huge win at fight island.

The match lasted 5 rounds with both fighters pretty even for a majority of the bout.

The first round was rather ordinary until the end when Yan landed a hard right hand while Aldo shot for a takedown. Both fighters headed back with honours shared.

The second round was more or less the same with both Yan and Aldo feeling each other out. Both fighters managed their distance to bring an end to the round.

The third round however, is when Yan started gaining the upper hand. Aldo did very well to keep away from Yan’s attacks but Yan managed to get a hard punch in before the round was brought to a close.

By round four, Yan became increasingly more dominant. He opened the round with a combination and continued to threaten throughout. The round would ended with Yan firing several blows from above to finish on top.

Round 5 was no different with Yan continuing his dominance before a huge left sent Aldo to the mat. Yan got on top of a battered and bloodied Aldo and continued to pound in the blows. With Aldo refusing to give up, the referee had no choice but to call off the match and handing the win to Yan.

The UFC Bantamweight Championship had been vacant following the retirement of Henry Cejudo earlier this year. With his victory tonight, Yan has now become only the second champion out of Russia. Khabib Nurmogomedov, the reigning lightweight champion, is the other.
