Leon Edwards reacts to Colby Covington’s unwillingness to accept the fight against him. The two are at the summit of the Welterweight rankings and may square off for the title shot.
After a third successive cancellation of the much-anticipated Leon Edwards Vs. Khamzat Chimaev fight, the decision-makers have now moved on from the bout and are planning to give Leon Edwards a different opponent. UFC president Dana White himself broke-out this news last week and stated that the UFC is figuring out the best possible replacement of Chimaev.
On the following day, reports spread about a potential encounter between Colby Covington and Leon Edwards. At the pre-event press conference of UFC 258, Dana White did say that the fight is indeed been targetted and if materializes may take place on March 13.
While the fight is apparently welcomed by the enthusiasts, but it seems Colby Covington is not eager to share the ring space with Leon Edwards. In a recent sitting with Submission Radio, Covington did not entertain the idea of fighting Edwards and implied that he is in no mood to show generosity.
“Leon hasn’t earned anything, boys. I’m in the Colby Covington Incorporated championship business, I’m not in the Leon Scott charity business. This isn’t charity hour, man. I’m fighting at the top of the mountain, I’m fighting the best in the world.
“It’s not my fault this kid hasn’t fought in two years. It’s not my fault this kid – there’s people from England fighting all the time in the pandemic, they’re not scared to fight. So, I’m not doing charity for this guy who hasn’t fought in two years. He’s irrelevant, he’s beat a bunch of bums, and I’m not doing charity. This isn’t charity hour, this is fcking championship fcking pay-per-view hour.”

So, while it would be a blockbuster fight, and would undoubtedly produce the next No.1 contender for the Welterweight title, it seems the path isn’t clear and it all depends on the negotiations.
