‘Tony made Justin look a little bit better than he is’- Dustin Poirier Contemplates The Result Of Khabib Nurmagomedov Vs. Justin Gaethje Fight
Dustin Poirier is displeased over the way Justin Gaethje fought against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 254.
Dustin Poirier, who in 7 weeks would be squaring off against the returning Conor McGregor, has seemingly started the run of media interactions. On Tuesday the Diamond sat for an interview with Luke Thomas and reflected on his fight career.
In the interview the Lafayette native expressed he has come a long way from his defeat at the hands of Conor McGregor in 2014 and the upcoming match against the same opponent is a chance to nail down his name in the history books.
Besides his rematch with McGregor, the 32-year-old fighter talked about his previous victories and losses and also contemplated on the result of Khabib Nurmagomedov Vs. Justin Gaethje fight.

While talking about his losses, Poirier admitted that though he suffered the same fate as 28 others did against Khabib Nurmagomedov, however, he conveyed that the Eagle’s recent victim Justin Gaethje disappointed him. Dustin criticized Justin’s inability to make adjustments and thereby said- Tony made Justin look a little bit better than he is.
“I bet Khabib to win straight-up and I bet Khabib to win by submission” Dustin said. “I was more surprised of Justin’s Jiu-Jitsu and positional awareness on the ground, the lack of. But I don’t have a whole room to talk. I’ve been doing Jiu-Jitsu for a long time competing for a long time, I’ve got beat-up there too. But the Armbar, the triangle, things that the quick mounts that Khabib did. I think Justin was out of his game. It looked like after the first round he was tired. Certain guys they can’t adjust their styles that much, Justin is the wrecking ball, not much the matador.”
It should be noted that in May (UFC 249), Justin Gaethje and Tony Ferguson fought for the Interim belt, where Gaethje prevailed over Ferguson via a fifth-round TKO.

Dustin Poirier Vs. Justin Gaethje: Rematch
Despite Dustin’s disapproval of Justin’s fight game, on the match-day, the highlight did came out with a positive takeaway. At UFC 254 Justin Gaethje became only the second fighter (First-McGregor) to win a round against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Though, Dustin Poirier is already committed for UFC 257 but since he hopes to surge ahead in the title contention then a future challenge may be awaiting for him and who knows it may turn out to be the only person who is currently ahead of him in the 155-pound rankings viz. Justin Gaethje.
