Reports suggest that BuzzFeed News may be shutting down and laying off 15% of its staff as part of company-wide cost-cutting measures. Despite being a highly respected source of investigative journalism, BuzzFeed News has reportedly been running at a yearly financial loss of around $10 million. Some influential shareholders have therefore suggested that CEO Jonah Peretti should consider ending the news outlet’s activities. This comes as BuzzFeed’s stock has plummeted by over 90% since its IPO in late 2021, with shares currently trading at just 71 cents, down more than 23% on Thursday.

But what does this have to do with the controversial influencer Andrew Tate? In this piece, we look into what Tate said about the company and other related controversies.

Andrew Tate and BuzzFeed controversy

Andrew Tate, the former professional kickboxer, has been a popular name on the internet for quite a while now. He was banned from several social media platforms for his misogynist comments. However, Tate was reincarnated on Twitter last year. Since then, he has been very much active on the platform.

After learning about the news about BuzzFeed, Tate’s brother Tristan Tate put out a tweet claiming to buy the news platform. Following that, Andrew Tate sent out a number of other tweets that were directed toward the news outlet. Tate has previously caused controversy. However, this most recent one was inspired by some earlier BuzzFeed articles about the contentious Andrew Tate.

The news outlet published a story about Tate’s Hustler University last year that went in depth. Tate created the community with the intention of imparting money-making and life skills to its members.

BuzzFeed, however, provided a different viewpoint on the community and called attention to sexism. This year, they produced another Tate-related piece that shared details about his home life, family, and career. The Tate brothers appear to have been miffed by this. They attacked BuzzFeed as a result of its seeming decline.

Tate pledges $25 million donation

The controversial social media influencer, Andrew Tate, along with his brother Tristan, was arrested last year in Romanian. The arrested was reportedly made under suspicions of human trafficking and money laundering. However, they were released from prison after over two months and are placed under house arrest.

The former professional kickboxer appears to be attempting to repair his public image after being released. Tate recently declared that before the year is through, he will donate over $25 million to a worthy cause.

Despite the size of the sum, Tate has built a multi-millionaire fortune through his online businesses. Thus, it might not be a big deal for him. However, it still remains to be seen if Tate lives up to his promise or not.

What are your thoughts on Andrew Tate’s donation claims? What do you guys think about his controversy with BuzzFeed?
