Valorant Gekko Guide: Abilities
Gekko is one of the trickiest Agents to play in the game. With an array of responsibilities on his pets, it is crucial to understand when to use them. As an Initiator, the first agenda on Gekko’s list is to make the Site accessible to the Duelists. Apart from that, with the help of his abilities, he has to gather all the information to start the attack, or as a defender, he has to stall the initiation for as long as possible.
With the help of his three abilities and one ultimate, he should be able to carry out his role well. When playing him, players have to keep the timing of everything in mind. Below are his abilities that show why he is the perfect pick for any side.
Q – WINGMAN
EQUIP Wingman FIRE to send Wingman forward seeking enemies. Wingman unleashes a concussive blast toward the first enemy he sees ALT FIRE when targeting a Spike site or planted Spike to have Wingman defuse or plant the Spike. To plant the Spike, Gekko must have it in his inventory. When Wingman expires he reverts into a dormant globule INTERACT to reclaim the globule and gain another Wingman charge after a short cooldown.
E – DIZZY
EQUIP Dizzy FIRE to send Dizzy soaring forward through the air. Dizzy charges and then unleashes plasma blasts at enemies in line of sight. Enemies hit by her plasma are blinded. When Dizzy expires she reverts into a dormant globule INTERACT to reclaim the globule and gain another Dizzy charge after a short cooldown.
C – MOSH PIT
EQUIP Mosh FIRE to throw Mosh like a grenade ALT FIRE to throw underhand. Upon landing, Mosh duplicates across a large area and then explodes after a short delay.
X – THRASH
EQUIP Thrash FIRE to link with Thrash’s mind and steer her through enemy territory. ACTIVATE to lunge forward and explode, detaining any enemies in a small radius. When Thrash expires she reverts into a dormant globule INTERACT to reclaim the globule and gain another Thrash charge after a short cooldown. Thrash can be reclaimed once.

Best Ways to Effectively Use Gekko When Attacking
Gekko mains must remember a straightforward thing: make way for Duelists and gather information. As an Initiator, his first move from the attacking side would be to flash the enemies and scout. Once that is done, they can help the allies with their other abilities whenever needed.
- Start with Dizzy to gather all the information before taking that peek.
- Clear the Site before unleashing the Wingman to plant. If the Site is not clear, Wingman is likely to get shot.
- Use the ultimate to take down enemies or use Thrash as the bait.
Best Ways to Effectively Use Gekko When Defending
When defending the Site, Gekko still has to collect and communicate all the intel with his team. He can also use many of his abilities, like Dizzy and Mosh pit, to slow down the enemies. This would ensure he has bought time for the Duelists to plan their move.
- Start the round with Thrash for an aggressive start that might catch the Attackers off guard.
- Use Wingman as bait to distract the Attackers while you try to take them down.
Best teams
The ideal team composition when working with Gekko as an Initiator would be him, two Duelists, a Sentinel, and a Smoke. Below are two team options if players don’t want to follow the general rule mentioned above.
- Jett
- Breach
- Brimstone
- Killjoy
- Gekko
The lineup mentioned above will work best with five out of seven maps currently in rotation. These maps are Pearl, Icebox, Bind, Split, and Ascent.
The other lineup is rather unusual and makes Harbor and Gekko play together. Players can tweak the roles of all the Agents with this lineup and make it work best for the current meta.
- Harbor
- Gekko
- Jett
- Astra
- Killjoy
You should note that this lineup will work best with Fracture, Icebox, Split, Haven, and Ascent. This is mainly because the entry becomes extremely easy when players are on either of the sides.
