It is worth mentioning that there were reports that de Villiers had spoken to his childhood friend and South Africa captain Faf du Plessis a night before the team for the World Cup was to be announced, and expressed his desire to be included in the South African 2019 World Cup squad.

The reports also mentioned that  the offer was denied to him as De Villiers was clearly told that it would not be possible. Moreover, according to people privy to the talks, his request was “not even considered” by du Plessis,  head coach Ottis Gibson and convenor of selectors Linda Zondi.

Issuing a clarification statement on the same, the 35-year-old took to his Twitter handle to unveil details with respect to his chat with du Plessis. In the four images that de Villiers shared, he disclosed that he had retired from international cricket to spend more time with his family and not to pursue any monetary interest.

As his closing comment, he came up with the view that the more bigger a player, higher is the level of criticism that he faces, while believing in the pure traits of a gentleman which he possesses.

Virat terms de Villiers as the most honest and committed man he knows

Virat Kohli too, a few minutes hence, commented on his dear friend and RCB teammate’s clarification statement terming him the most honest and committed man he knows.

Empathising with the imbroglio that he finds his friend in, he backed de Villiers while instilling in the sense of belief he has in him, and admitted too that it was very unfortunate to see him entangled in such a situation.

As his closing comments he termed it rather sad for people entering in his personal space, and as a heartfelt gesture assured that he and Anushka Sharma will always stand behind his family.
