Kohli passes huge statement on World Test Championship: The Indian captain expressed excitement at the novel tournament.

Just when people had started to come to terms with the drama regarding the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup, another tournament which is likely to intrigue the viewers is the World Test Championship.

Slated to begin from the first Ashes Test on August 1, the Test Championship will be the first of its kind tournament to be played by the Top Nine Test teams. The two-year long tournament will culminate in June 2021 with the top-two teams in the league stage playing the final match at Lord’s.

The tournament will witness each team playing six series (three home and away each) among pre-decided opponents. Depending on the matches played in a series, teams will be awarded points which will rank them in the points table.

As far as India’s schedule in the World Test Championship is concerned, they will play away Test series in West Indies, New Zealand and Australia and play home series against South Africa, Bangladesh and England.

It is worth mentioning that India have played such a tournament in the past but it was only restricted for Asian teams. India captain Virat Kohli has expressed excitement at the World Test Championship. In a recent interview with The Times of India, Kohli stated that such a tournament is happening at the “right time”.

“It [the WTC] is very exciting. I think it’s happening at the right time for Test cricket. Although you are going to play a bilateral series, the meaning and importance are way more. You have to plan for every series. I was excited about something of this sort and now it’s coming to life,” Kohli was quoted as saying.
