Virat Kohli has been managing some very heavy workload in the last few months, having just taken a 15 day break during Sri Lanka’s limited overs tour to India in order to complete his marriage formalities with Anushka Sharma.

With the IPL round the corner, and the second leg of the Indian overseas tour set to begin right after that, Kohli would be needing some rest, as he has played every single match on this tour(Pandya is the only other player who has done the same).

Kohli has already criticised BCCI for the poor scheduling, with them fitting that short Sri Lanka series right before the all important South Africa tour.

MSK Prasad, the Indian selector has said that considering Kohli’s workload, it is completely his call if he wants to rest before the IPL.

Kohli’s selection would be of debate during the national selection committee’s meeting this weekend, wherein they’ll be selecting the team for the Tri-nation T20 series.

MSK Prasad has revealed that Kohli has been given some special privileges and will be deciding whether he wants to rest or participate in the series.

“If Virat wants to rest, he will get it. In Virat’s case, it’s he who decides on whether he would like to opt out or not. But you never know he might just want to play the T20 series as this is the last tourney of the season. Once the tournament is over, he will get a fortnight off before the Indian Premier League,” said a BCCI top official

MSK Prasad though refused to comment on this.

If Kohli is rested, we could see Rohit Sharma take up captaincy duties once again.

The selection committee would also look into the workload of India’s fast bowling unit, as both Bumrah and Bhuvi have had a lot to do on this tour of South Africa.

Shardul Thakur, Jaydev Unadkat, Basil Thampi and Mohammad Siraj could be drafted into the squad for the tri series, if both Bhuvi and Bumrah are rested. Other than that the team should have a similar make up to the one that has travelled to South Africa
