When Kohli would feature in County for Surrey, he will play under the captaincy of Rory Burns.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli will tour England before India’s tour of UK. After a dismal run in England till now, Kohli would look to get good preparation before the tour. When he toured England the last time around for a Test series, he could only manage 134 runs in 10 innings at an abysmal average of 13.40.

Team India is scheduled to tour England in July for consecutive series of 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 5 Tests. Just before that, the Indian team is scheduled to play two T20Is against Ireland on June 27 and June 29 respectively. However, Kohli’s last match for Surrey will continue till June 28. This would mean that Kohli would miss at least the 1st of the 2 T20Is.

Currently the Captain of the Indian team across all formats and that of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, it would be a strange feeling for Kohli to play under someone else. Surrey left-hander Rory Burns will be in charge of Surrey when Kohli flies to England.

Burns is a fairly experienced bloke and has played 96 first-class, 42 List A and 31 T20 matches.

The county stint will also mean that Kohli would miss the one-off Test against Afghanistan. That would be a historic match as it would mark the entry of Afghanistan in the Test arena. Kohli is currently captaining RCB in the IPL and is scheduled to tour England next.
