Virat Kohli vs Sachin Tendulkar Statistics

Virat Kohli vs Sachin Tendulkar Statistics: Sportsrush presents before you five records which Kohli can break in the ODI series against Windies.

The last time Virat Kohli donned the ODI jersey for India was during the tour of England earlier this year. In the three matches that Kohli played in England, he scored 191 runs at an average of 63.66 and a strike rate of 90.95, ending up as the second-highest run-scorer in the series.

After being rested for the Asia Cup, Kohli was surprisingly included in the squad against Windies. It was a bit surprising because India could have given a longer rope to someone else in the middle-order.

Now when Kohli has been included in the team for the first two ODIs, he stands a handsome chances of breaking a few records in ODI cricket, something which he has been regularly doing in the last year or so.

Below are the records which Dhoni can break:

1) Fastest to 10,000 ODI runs – With 9,779 runs in 211 matches (203 innings) at a whopping average of 58.20 and a strike rate of 92.12, Kohli is closing in on 10,000 ODI runs. Kohli will be needing an additional 221 runs to achieve the feat.

Currently, Sachin Tendulkar holds the record of fastest 10,000 runs in ODIs. He had achieved the feat in 259 innings which tells that Kohli will surpass Tendulkar with a significant margin.

2) Fourth batsman to score 10,000 ODI runs for India – If Kohli becomes successful in achieving the feat, he will be only the fourth Indian batsman (after Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid) to do so.

That being said, he will receive competition from wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni for this record as the latter requires only 51 runs to bring up his 10,000 ODI runs for India.

3) Most ODI runs by an Indian batsman against Windies – In the 27 matches that Kohli has played against Windies, he has scored 1,387 runs at an average of 60.30 and a strike rate of 92.28. Among the Indian batsmen, Kohli is currently at No. 2.

The 29-year old Indian captain needs 186 more runs to once again surpass Tendulkar, who had scored 1,573 runs in 39 matches at an average of 52.43 and a strike rate of 78.02 against Windies.

4) Most ODI centuries against Windies – In terms of scoring ODI centuries against Windies, Kohli is currently at joint-second with the likes of Babar Azam, Sachin Tendulkar and Jacques Kallis, all of whom have scored four centuries against Windies.

If Kohli scores a century in the series, he will join the South Africa trio of Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers and Herschelle Gibbs, all of whom have scored five centuries against Windies. If Kohli scored two or more centuries, he will become the only batsman to score that number of centuries against Windies in ODIs.

5) Most catches by an Indian fielder against Windies – In 27 ODIs against Windies, Kohli has got hold of 11 catches. In the five-match series, Kohli needs four and seven more catches to surpass former captains in Mohammad Azharuddin (14) and Rahul Dravid (17) respectively.
