Virat Kohli with an inspiring message for Sunil Chhetri and Indian Football fans
Indian football had a re-birth yesterday. Sunil Chhetri’s 100th game for the country lit up India and gave all the onlookers a flavour of what Indian football is currently and what it could become in the future.
It was an even that should have happened a few decades ago, but better late than never.
The power of social media had a lot to do with what transpired on the field yesterday. A man’s humble plea was reverberating in the entire nation, thanks to a lot of stars and influencers coming forward and recognising the need for action.
One of the those stars was Virat Kohli, who as a football fan has always adored and respected Sunil Chhetri.
The duo share a lovely bond, something that was visible during Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s reception in Mumbai.
When Chhetri released the video of his plea to the Indian footballing community, Virat Kohli was very prompt in sharing it and asking the countrymen to go to the ground and take this footballing revolution forward.
It was heartening to see the captain of the most popular sport in the country address the grievances of a less popular sport.
The fans responded and so did the Indian football team, as they came up with a scintillating performance to beat Kenya 3-0, with Chhetri getting a brace.
Virat Kohli, who couldn’t grace the occasion because of family commitments came up with a tweet today evening, expressing his love for the Indian football team and Sunil Chhetri.
“The last two years have been fantastic for Indian Football and last night again they showed that they mean business. A great 3 nil victory over Kenya. Well done champ Sunil Chhetri” Kohli tweeted.
