The outspoken Indian legend resorted to ‘keeping mum’ when asked about Ravi Shastri’s selection as Indian Head Coach. Sehwag was questioned by reporters regarding the same but decided not to speak about it.

During the selection process. reports had emerged that Virender Sehwag was the frontrunner for the job, as the CAC wanted him to succeed Anil Kumble. Ravi Shastri wasn’t preferred much by the CAC, but his proximity to Kohli was something that was always going to be the deciding factor in the entire saga.

And that is exactly what transpired. Ravi Shastri was selected as the head coach of India until the 2019 World Cup.

“If you ask questions on “Umeed India” (the show he is promoting) then I will answer. Thanks.” he told reporters at an event.

In the interview, Sehwag also spoke about the plight of the Indian athletes, who go through a lot of difficulties while preparing for world events.

“My struggle was nothing in comparison to them. For me cricketing facilities were available at every corner, there are 1000s of academies in Delhi where (one) gets facilities and equipments. There is no struggle for us cricketers in front of them.”

Ravi Shastri’s appointment has come in with a lot of scrutiny, as the BCCI made a major goof up with the support staff, announcing Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid as bowling and batting consultants respectively.

Ravi Shastri later came out and said that he would prefer to have his own backroom staff, as he wasn’t sure as to how much time Zaheer and Dravid would be able to provide to the Indian team.

Bharath Arun has been drafted in as the bowling coach and Sanjay Bangar will keep his place as the batting coach. Zaheer and Dravid will be ‘consultants’ as Shastri feels their contribution is going to be ‘invaluable’.
