WATCH: Aaron Finch and Steve Smith involved in devastating mix-up; Finch expresses anger after getting out

Aaron Finch and Steve Smith involved in devastating mix-up: The Australian pair found themselves on the wrong side of calling in the middle.

During the third ODI of the ongoing Australia’s tour of India in Bengaluru, Australia captain Aaron Finch and batsman Steve Smith were involved in a devastating mix-up which saw the former walking back to the pavilion.

It all happened on the penultimate delivery of the ninth over when Smith dabbed a Mohammed Shami delivery on the off-side. The conundrum to run a single saw Smith calling for it and then showing hesitation about the same.

Responding well to his partner’s call and also running to the danger end, Finch had almost reached the batsman’s end before Smith changed his mind.

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who was fielding at point, ran to his left to collect the ball and take a shy at the stumps at the striker’s end. While Jadeja missed the stumps, Shreyas Iyer was in the right position to not just provide back-up but also throw the ball calmly to Shami at the non-striker’s end.

With the visitors losing opening batsman David Warner (3) in the fourth over, it was vital for Finch to play a long innings. That being said, him getting out in such a manner saw him expressing both his anger and disappointment. The Australian skipper ended up scoring 19 (26) with the help of one four and one six.

It is worth mentioning that it was Finch who won the toss and chose to bat earlier. While Australia included pacer Josh Hazlewood for Kane Richardson, the hosts have fielded an unchanged XI.
