During the one-off Bushfire Relief Match between Ponting XI and Gilchrist XI at the Junction Oval, Gilchrist XI captain Adam Gilchrist rewound the clock against his former teammate and fast bowler Brett Lee.
Opening the batting for his team in a 105-run chase, Gilchrist received a wide delivery first up. Having lost his balance in a bid to drive a delivery from Lee, Gilchrist ended up falling on the ground which didn’t particularly look very convincing.

However, on the following delivery, the southpaw pulled a short ball from Lee for a highly convincing six. Mic’ed up while batting, Gilchrist had expressed his intention of taking on Lee on the first delivery. It is worth mentioning that the first delivery for each batsman in this match was a free-hit to make sure that no one gets out on the first delivery.
Gilchrist, who was dismissed by Ponting XI’s Luke Hodge, ended up scoring 17 (11) with the help of two fours and a six to become a source of amazement for his fans. The 48-year old stitched a 49-run opening stand (off 18 balls) alongside former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson (30).
While Gilchrist XI lost the match by 1 run after a last-ball drama, the contest was successful in raising a handsome amount of money to be contributed towards the damage caused by the catastrophic bushfire in Australia.
