WATCH: Cristiano Ronaldo SHOCKINGLY misses a clear tap as Real Madrid lose to Real Betis
When the team-sheets were announced last night, the Madrid fans couldn’t have been happier. Their King was back from suspension and the team sheet was the strongest that could have been put out by Zinedine Zidane.
Madrid hasn’t enjoyed the best of seasons at home this time round, getting bogged down by travelling teams and finding it hard to score and keep a clean sheet. And something very similar transpired against Real Betis last night.
Madrid tried everything in their armoury, possession football, counter attacks, quality set pieces, but just couldn’t find a way to put the ball in the back of the net.
Boasting of a front three comprising of Ronaldo, Bale and Isco; you would have expected them to bury Real Betis, but Betis hung on, soaked in the pressure and created a lot of chances for themselves too.
But the moment of the match came in the 51st minute when the ball was played upfield to Gareth Bale, who put in the perfect grounded cross, which found Ronaldo with space in the box, and all he had to do was slot it into the open net, but ended up skying it.
It was an easy put away for Ronaldo’s standards and looking back at the game, he would be livid with himself for having cost his team 3 crucial points.
Real Madrid now find themselves 7 points behind Barcelona with just 5 games being played and will have to play catch up all through the season.
