Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings batsman Faf du Plessis has hailed captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the “best finisher” in the game. du Plessis’ statement has come a few days after former Australia and Super Kings batsman Michael Hussey complemented Dhoni on similar lines.
“MS Dhoni has been, obviously, part of the team since the beginning but I see him as the best finisher in the game. To have been on the field and in the side of the field for so many years and to have just seen him construct innings together and how he has finished games,” du Plessis was quoted as saying in a video posted on Super Kings’ Twitter account.
In the 63 IPL matches that du Plessis has played for CSK, he has scored 1,639 runs at an average of 31.52 and a strike rate of 126.76 including 10 half-centuries.
Faf du Plessis reveals MS Dhoni-related Best IPL memory
Du Plessis, who made his IPL debut for Chennai in 2012, has played for them since then except for two seasons (2016-2017) when they were suspended from the tournament. The 35-year old player recalled winning various tournaments for Chennai in the video.
“I have been very fortunate to be part of the team for almost 10 years now. I have some incredible memories of us winning two IPLs, two or three [two] Champions League and some incredible games. I’m trying to remember some brilliant individual innings and my memory is not great so it might be a little bit off here and there but bear with me,” du Plessis said.
Nominated by vice-captain Suresh Raina to reveal his Best IPL moment, du Plessis pointed several incredible performances by Super Kings’ players over the years. Having named Raina’s innings against Kings XI Punjab in 2014 and Watson standing tall on his potential in the big matches lately. du Plessis picked Dhoni’s half-century against Royal Challengers Bangalore from the last season as his Best IPL Moment.
“There have been a lot of them but I will mention that is fresh in my memory. Last year against RCB. I think we were 60-6 or 7 [four] and basically we should be bowled out for 90.
“He [MS Dhoni] was in at the moment and absorbed pressure very well. Then he started hitting more and more sixes. The sixes he was hitting was out of the stadium. He ended up getting 87 off 40-odd balls (48-ball 84*). I think it was 26 required off the last over and after the game, we were like what just happened,” du Plessis mentioned.
#Faf has taken @ImRaina‘s #MyIPLMoment challenge and mentions quite a few legendary ones. But we are not gonna let him discount his incredible 67* off 42 to take us Fafulously into the 2018 Final! :’) The baton now passes on to @mhussey393! #WhistlePodu @faf1307 🦁💛 pic.twitter.com/okpiPWOQDH
