Heading into the third test against England, Mitch Marsh knew that he had a glorious opportunity to nail down the number six position in the Aussie line-up.
The younger Marsh is an extremely talented cricketer but has not yet managed to make the best out of the opportunities that were provided to him.
But he decided to change all that as he scored a brilliant 181 in what could well be a career defining innings for the all-rounder.
Marsh joined his skipper in the middle and batted England out of the game, as the pair batted for the majority of Day 3 to effectively ensure that England don’t win this match.
It was a highly emotional moment for Marsh, as was seen through his exuberant celebrations on reaching his maiden test match century.
The fact that Marsh played this knock on his home ground and front of his family and friends made this moment all the more special for him and his loved ones.
In spite of his previous struggles, Marsh was always popular among the Aussie fans as they knew that he was a special talent.
The Aussie selectors also retained a lot of faith in the all-rounder as they hope that he will evolve into someone like Shane Watson in the future.
Watson was another player who had a tough initiation period in international cricket, but eventually grew into a world class performer who served Australia very well over the years.
Here is a video from the 2015 Ashes series when a fan offered a snack to Marsh who was fielding at the boundary. Marsh made sure that no ball was being delivered, and then crossed the boundary to take a bite of the fan’s cheese ball.
