WATCH: Jaydev Unadkat catches Akash Deep napping in Ranji Trophy final

Jaydev Unadkat catches Akash Deep napping: Saurashtra’s captain was aware enough to run-out the opposition bowler in the morning.

During the fifth day of the final match of the ongoing 86th season of the Ranji Trophy between Saurashtra and Bengal in Rajkot, Saurashtra have lifted the trophy for the first time in the history of the tournament.

The last of the 96-day tournament required Bengal to score 71 runs and Saurashtra to take four wickets for less than 70 runs to gain a first-innings lead. After the match moved to the last day, it was almost confirmed that the result would be announced on the basis of the first-innings lead.

Saurashtra captain Jaydev Unadkat, who was wicket-less until yesterday, sent back Bengal’s biggest hope in Anustup Majumdar (63) after he was found wanting in front of the stumps in the sixth over of the day.

On the last delivery of the same over, Unadkat’s presence of mind in addition to Bengal seamer Akash Deep’s (0) lack of awareness aided the hosts to dismiss the eighth Bengali batsman.

Standing outside the crease, Akash Deep left an Unadkat delivery outside the off-stump. Fancying a stumping chance up his sleeve, Saurashtra wicket-keeper Avi Barot threw the ball towards the stumps.

With Barot missing the stumps, Unadkat collected the ball and threw it back to the stumps. Having hit the stumps. Unadkat found Akash Deep short of his crease a hit foot was on the line.

While one needs to applaud Unadkat for trying to run-out Akash Deep in the second attempt, the latter remaining outside his crease despite Barot attempting a run-out doesn’t speak highly about his awareness regarding the game.

On the last delivery of the 161st over, Unadkat dismissed Ishan Porel (1) to bundle out Bengal for 381 and gain a 44-run lead which aided them in winning the tournament.
