Khaleel Ahmed's funny appeal

Khaleel Ahmed’s funny appeal: India A pacer’s appeal saw him running towards the gully region against New Zealand A.

During the first unofficial ODI of the ongoing India A’s tour of Australia A at Mount Maunganui, India A pacer Khaleel Ahmed started celebrating a wicket without the umpire ruling the batsman out.

Upon realisation, Ahmed became part of the unison of fielders who were already appealing for the dismissal. As a result, the 21-year old cricketers found himself near the gully region, an unusual position for a bowler to go and appeal.

It happened on the last delivery of the ninth over when Ahmed bowled a ripper to New Zealand batsman Hamish Rutherford. With the batsman beaten all ends up and the ball passing in close proximity of his bat, Ahmed assumed it to be out and started celebrating the wicket.

Despite a huge appeal from the Indian fielders, the umpire ruled the decision in the batsman’s favour. Citing the same, the bowler was seen kicking the ground in anger.

As far as the whole match is concerned, India A chased a 309-run chase with four wickets and an over remaining. It was a combined effort from India’s A Top six batsmen as everyone contributed into the victory.

All-rounder Vijay Shankar, who came in to bat at No. 5, top-scored for India A, scoring 87* (80) with the help of 12 fours and a six. Shreyas Iyer, who came in to bat at No. 3, also scored an half-century, 54 (54), with the help of five fours.

In the first innings, Ahmed picked up the sole wicket of opposition wicket-keeper Tim Seifert in the slog overs. With bowling figures of 10-0-74-2, Siddarth Kaul was the pick of the Indian bowlers.

After being put in to bat by India A captain Manish Pandey, New Zealand A scored 308-6 in 50 overs. New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham top-scored for his team, scoring 79* (48) with the help of seven fours and two sixes.
