Raikkonen explains his motivation to move to Sauber

Kimi Raikkonen’s move to Sauber has been one of the most talked about one during the silly season, as a whole lot of drama surrounded the same, especially after the Monza weekend.

Reports had started coming in that Raikkonen had already been informed about his contract not being renewed before qualifying day in Monza.

Raikkonen then went out and dished out one of the laps of the season, claiming pole position in Monza.

A few days later it was announced that Charles Leclerc would join forces with Sebastian Vettel from the 2019 season, with Kimi rejoining boyhood team Sauber.

Kimi’s performances have improved ever since then, as if a lid lifted off him.

Having secured victory in Austin, Kimi spoke about his motivation to move away from Ferrari and rejoin Sauber.

He stressed on the fact that he had had a long and fruitful relationship with Ferrari, one where he also became world champion.

For Kimi it was time to move on, and Sauber seemed like the best place to move to, as it was closer to his home and he could spend more quality time with them.

Journalists have constantly been asking Kimi if he regrets leaving Ferrari(or if Ferrari regret letting him go). Kimi had a very straightforward response for all of them, saying that he is happy with the decision that all the parties have made regarding his future.

“I think people don’t understand I’m actually very happy where I’m going.

“I had my time with Ferrari, I won the championship with them. I won many races with them and for me, as a driver, I want different challenges, I want different things and I’m actually very happy to go there.

“It’s roughly 40 minutes from my home. For sure my family will be happy, I’m happy to be with my family. I think it’s probably the best thing.

“I wasn’t really disappointed with the decision at any point. The only thing that I was interested in was to know what was going to happen and that’s the only thing.

“The rest, I’ve been long enough in F1 to know that things… it doesn’t matter if you have contracts or not, things happen for different reasons but I think the end result is that I’m very excited about it.” Kimi said.

Do you think the right decision has been made?
