The sheer volume of goals that he has scored in his career alone gives him a place in football history. After many people claiming that he is slowing down, Messi has started this season in glorious fashion as he continues to be Barcelona’s talisman.

Last night’s victory against Athletic Club again showed how important Messi is to this Barcelona club. He did score a goal in the match, but the talking point of the match was not his goal but actually his failure to score another goal.
In a beautifully constructed move, Messi received the ball and was charging towards the keeper. With no one but the goalie to beat, you could have bet your house that Messi would score.
But he somehow managed to miss!
