WATCH : Lionel Messi scores a sublime under the wall free-kick
Just when you think you have seen everything, Lionel Messi finds a way to surprise you!
The Argentine produced a moment of genius during last night’s rout of Girona, as Messi scored an under the wall free-kick to send the Camp Nou into ecstasy. There are very few people who can score just a goal in practice, let alone do during a match.
Valverde spoke about his team after the match ended,
“Leo makes things appear easy, but they aren’t easy. It’s hard to judge a performance like this,” he said.
”Just when you think you’ve seen everything from a player, he goes and surprises you once more. We are always waiting to see just how he will raise the bar next.”
“Dembele offers more width, he’s a winger and he’s still very young. He has had problems with injuries which affected his adaption but now he’s back for the important part of the season.
“When a player gets a goal, like Coutinho, it’s a boost for their confidence, which players always need. I think that’s what Dembele was looking for throughout the game. I think that, as the match progressed, they got better and better, especially Dembele.”
“They are moments of the game and the referee decides. I have nothing to say about that. If we have a setback due to an accumulation of bookings, another player will play. We’ll decide what we do.”
Messi now has 22 goals and 12 assists in 25 La Liga outings, and will soon be turning his attention towards the massive second leg against Chelsea at home.
Girona had actually taken a shock lead to stun the home crowd. But it was only a matter of time before Barcelona kicked into gear, as the Catalan giants scored through Messi, Suarez and Coutinho.
Suarez scored a hat-trick in the match, as the great Uruguayan continued his impressive form over the last few weeks. Coutinho also scored a brilliant 20-yard curler, as the Brazilian notched up his first goal at the Nou Camp.
