During the 40th match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup between India and Bangladesh at Edgbaston, India’s in-form opening batsman and centurion from the previous match against England- Rohit Sharma survives quite early on in the innings as Tamim Iqbal drops an easy catch to hand him a lifeline.

It all happened on the fourth delivery of the 5th over. Rohit Sharma, being a good puller of the shorter ball fell in the trap of a fielder placed in the deep on the leg-side. It was a astute plan hatched by Bangladesh skipper, Mashrafe Mortaza and was equally executed by their premier seamer- Mustafizur Rahman.
Mustafizur banged the delivery short and Rohit, who had right in the first over of the match hit a short ball for a maximum, went in again for his famous hook only to mistime it horribly.
Tamim Iqbal, who was stationed in the deep mid-wicket region for the same very purpose, dropped a relatively simple catch to puncture the spirits of the fans and his teammates present on the ground.
A costly miss
Rohit Sharma, who has struck a total of three centuries in the World Cup so far, will surely look to make full use of the lifeline he has received quite early on in his innings. Considering the form that he is in, I’m afraid Bangladesh have costed themselves a semi-final berth, being this one a do-or-die match for them.
Earlier, Virat Kohli had won the Toss, and decided to bat first on what turned out to be a good pitch for batting, particularly during the first innings, as was witnessed on June 30 during India’s match against England.
India have gone in with two changes in their squad, Dinesh Karthik and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar replacing Kedar Jadhav and Kuldeep Yadav respectively.
Mustafizur creates a chance but Tamim Iqbal at deep mid-wicket drops an easy catch. How costly will this dropped catch of Rohit Sharma prove to be?

At the time of writing, India were comfortably placed at 99/0 after 17 overs with Rohit Sharma (53 off 50) making full use of his lifeline and KL Rahul (42 off 53) present at the crease.
