The Champions League is back and the goals have been flying in. Matchday one has seen some exciting football, with teams ready to go for the kill rather than sit back and wait for things to happen.
Real Madrid’s title defence got underway today with APOEL visiting the Bernabeu. Placed in the ‘Group of Death’, Real would have wanted to score heavy and get off to a flyer in the Champions League, and that is exactly what transpired at the Bernabeu today.
Ronaldo opened the scoring with a brilliant finish, after Isco, Bale and Ronaldo linked up in a well crafted counter attack.
APOEL then gifted a penalty to Real Madrid and Ronaldo gleefully converted the penalty. Madrid then kept knocking on the door, with Ronaldo coming close on a couple of occasions.
It was then turn for the Madrid captain to get himself registered on the scoresheet, and he did so in emphatic fashion, scoring a brilliant overhead kick.
