While Gavaskar’s back foot defense, Ganguly’s elegant cover drive, Sahin’s back foot punch and Dravid’ flick off the pads will have a place in the annals of Indian history, MS Dhoni’s famous ‘helicopter shot’ may not find an illustrious home.
But in a way it symbolizes Dhoni as well. The Ranchi man is unlike anything that Indian cricket has seen before. Coming from Jharkand, Dhoni has become a hero for people who stay in the smaller towns of India.
It is there that Dhoni developed the ‘helicopter shot’. In a recent press conference in Dubai, Dhoni spoke about the famous shot and where did he learn it from.
“It is something I learnt while playing tennis ball cricket on the roads of India. It is difficult. In tennis ball cricket even it’s hit from the toe of the bat the ball still travels a lot but in normal cricket, it has to be the middle part of the bat, so it requires a lot of work. I don’t want them to play helicopter shots because they could get injured,” MS Dhoni said.
Dhoni’s fans though will not stop, as they will still try to imitate their favourite superstar’s signature shot. Dhoni has now been a main stay in the Indian side for more than 13 years, as the Ranchi man has built a huge legion of fans.
Many members in the current Indian side have grown up idolizing Dhoni, as the likes of Chahal and Yadav have admitted that they were huge fans of the wicket keeper.
The spin duo had a wonderful 2017, as they established themselves in the limited overs side. Their wonderful performances have pushed the experienced duo of Jadeja and Ashwin out of the side, as the pair now exclusively in the test format.
Chahal in particular has been sensational, as the young leggie has quickly become one of the first names in the starting line-up.
Recently, Chahal was seen playing on the golf course, as he relaxes ahead of the highly anticipated limited overs series in South Africa. Chahal was seen having fun on the golf course, as the spinner tried the helicopter shot and sent a message to Dhoni.
