Wayne Rooney is an enigma for Manchester United. Just a few months ago, Rooney was the captain and all time goal scorer for both England and Manchester United. His stature in game unparalleled, Rooney was trying to re invent himself in the last phase of his wonderful career.

But he just has not appeared frequently for United last season, as a combination of injuries and poor form has seen him drop down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

While Jose would love to have someone with Rooney’s pedigree at United, he understands that Rooney will need regular playing time if he wants to get selected in the English squad for the World Cup.

But while a move back to Everton is something that the Englishman would love, his huge wages are proving to be a stumbling block. Rooney earns around 300,000 Pounds per week, making him one of the highest earners at the club.

Rooney still has a year to run out on his current contract, including an option of an additional year. Although Koeman has publicly said that he would love to have Rooney back at Everton, the club has made any contact with Rooney’s representatives.

United are not willing to take a huge cut off Rooney’s wages, making it very hard for the England great to find a new club.

So what next?

Either Rooney will have to pay off his contract, or maybe make a move to China. But it looks like he is unwilling to take either option, which means he would probably end up staying at his current club.

As of now, Manchester United’s number 10 looks set to continue at Old Trafford.
