David Luiz Red Card : The club is quietly confident of getting the red card reincited
Gameweek 22 in the Premier League was fraught with shoddy referring decisions and botched VAR calls. Despite being touted as the finest football league in the world by many, the English league’s horrid standards of officiating were on clear display this week.
One club which ended up suffering calamitously due to the contentious calls was Arsenal. Reduced to 9 men against Wolverhampton ended up costing the side massively as it fell to a 2-1 defeat on the day.
While Leno’s red card was a correct decision, it was the call to give defender David Luiz his marching orders which left many flummoxed. Despite their being no attempt by Luiz to foul his man, the CB was adjudged to have indulged in a misconduct, one which not only earned him a red card but also saw the hosts being rewarded a penalty.
Arteta Gives Reasoning Behind Appeal
Arsenal have ever since gone onto appeal the red card to the FA. The club’s manager confirmed the same as he spoke ahead of Arsenal’s forthcoming showdown at the weekend.
“I’m very hopeful, that’s why we put the appeal on,” said Arteta.
“We went through all the images and we think the red card should be overruled. That’s why we appealed.
“I don’t know how long it will take but hopefully today we will hopefully have more information.”
“We know the law,” he said.
“For me it’s more about the decision and what happens in that instance.
“There was a very similar instance against Manchester United where David was on the side of the player which completely changes the angle, the purpose and the player’s ability to finish the action. I think they will look at it.
“If you look at the two images I think we can have a long debate here. Just to put the finger on David in my opinion is not fair.”
