Baron Corbin is reportedly behind Shorty G’s push on WWE SmackDown. The former rivals surprisingly joined hands this week.
Chad Gable, who goes by Shorty G these days, hasn’t been on TV for a long time despite enjoying a surge in popularity last year. The former American Alpha member, became a fan favourite during the King of the Ring tournament but failed at the last hurdle to Baron Corbin.

The pair then had a feud following which both wrestlers underwent a name change. While Corbin got a royal makeover with King Corbin, Gable became Shorty G and was taken off TV soon after until last month when he participated in the fatal-four way for a shot at the Intercontinental title.
This week Gable’s character came full circle as he appeared to have turned heel to help the very same person he had feuded with. Offered a king’s ransom to take out Matt Riddle, Gable seem to have accepted the offer as he attacked Riddle from behind on this week’s episode of SmackDown.
Baron Corbin is reportedly behind Shorty G’s push on WWE SmackDown
Despite what seems like a very obvious turn, Sportskeeda’s Tom Colohue says the WWE creative do not have a definite direction for his character. Regardless though, he appears to be in line for a push due to Corbin lobbying for him and Vince McMahon seeing a glimpse of Kurt Angle in him.
“Chad Gable may or may not be a heel going forward,” Colohue said. “Kayfabe reasoning for this that Chad Gable hasn’t had that many chances recently. He is trying to collect a King’s ransom which Baron Corbin has laid out for him. This essentially means that he will get money.”
“But in a non-kayfabe sense, it is to get Chad Gable into some feud and get him some TV time, and eventually get to that Chad Gable vs Matt Riddle match. Baron Corbin has apparently been pushing for more opportunities for people and this is one of the ways that Vince McMahon believes that they can push new stars. Chad Gable is someone that he wants to push purely because of his in-ring talent. Apparently, he sees a lot of Kurt Angle in Chad Gable.”
