Braun Strowman reveals he was struggling with suicidal thoughts last year

Braun Strowman reveals he was struggling with suicidal thoughts last year. He revealed that a chat with Vince McMahon helped him sport a more positive outlook on life.

Braun Strowman has been positioned as a monster since his debut with the Wyatt Family; even more so since he broke away from the faction. He became a fan favourite back around late 2016 and 2017 when he manhandled Roman Reigns.

He was arguably on his hottest streak. However, the WWE failed to capitalise on it by giving him the Universal title. He would inexplicably lose every time the Universal title was on the line. This did not just frustrate the fans but even took a toll on the performer who began to contemplate within the promotion.

“I wasn’t happy with some of the stuff that was going on, and I got to a point where I was just like, man, I don’t know if I want to do this anymore,” Strowman revealed in a new episode of WWE Chronicle. “I’m sick of losing sleep and stressing myself out about this. I don’t (didn’t) feel like I’m important to the company.”

He then revealed that he had at one point contemplated ending it all and regretted not talking to someone sooner.

“I might not even be here, I don’t like talking about this out loud,” he continued. “I was, like, thinking about killing myself a couple of times. It’s s*** that I got to that point, and I should have talked to somebody sooner.”

A conversation with WWE chairman Vince McMahon however, helped him changed his outlook.

“I got to the point where I was on the verge of I had enough,” Strowman explained. “I kind of busted in on Vince one day in a meeting and I was like ‘I need to talk to you’ and he kicked everybody out of the production meeting and he sat down and talked to me. Not like boss to employee but like man to man, almost like a father son talk thing.”

“I never knew how much he cared about me. I thought I was just a number in a system. That day he made me realize that I’m more important than a number I can’t thank him enough for doing that.”

Braun Strowman wasn’t booked on this year’s Wrestlemania. However, as luck would have it, Roman Reigns pulled out of the event due to the Corona Pandemic. Strowman replaced the Big Dog and won the World Title for the first time in his career.

He carried the title until SummerSlam last week where he lost the title to former leader Bray Wyatt. He will now compete in a triple threat match with Wyatt and Reigns in a No Holds Barred triple threat match in a bid to reclaim the Universal Title at WWE Payback this Sunday.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
