Whether you love him or hate him, you can’t deny that John Cena carried the weight of WWE on his shoulders for many years. While other major superstars such as Brock Lesnar, The Rock, and others left, Cena was carving out a legendary career. From 2005 to 2015, John Cena remained the face of the company for the longest time. That said, Brock Lesnar once claimed that John Cena would not have been the face of the company if he hadn’t left WWE.
After leaving WWE in 2004, Brock Lesnar made a name in UFC. Despite his NCAA wrestling background, Lesnar had many doubters as he embarked on starting a career in MMA.
Proving his doubters wrong, The Beast Incarnate dominated notable names in the octagon. Even though Lesnar had left his mark in WWE before he left, he returned in 2012 to take back his place from John Cena.
Brock Lesnar says John Cena became of WWE because he left the company in 2004
Brock Lesnar’s groundbreaking return saw him “bring the pain” to John Cena. The duo proceeded to have multiple encounters going forward.
During an interview, in the lead-up to their match at Extreme Rules in 2012, Brock Lesnar claimed that John Cena became the face of WWE because the former left the company.
Lesnar also added that if he hadn’t left, John Cena would be carrying his bags.
“We need a guy to legitimize this company and Brock Lesnar is that guy. We’re tired of John Cena’s bullc*ap. John Cena is not the real guy. The only reason John is in the spot that he’s in is because I left. If I was still around for the last eight years, John Cena’s the guy that’d be carrying my bags into the building.”
Calling a spade, a spade, Lesnar said that he is not a superstar, he is an “as*-kicker” and added that he legitimizes the wrestling business. John Cena may be one of the biggest attractions in WWE, but Brock Lesnar is undeniably the most dominant.
John Cena Vs Brock Lesnar at 2012 Extreme Rules was a better match than last nights Cody Rhodes match. It had the right amount of violence, hard spots, and usage of the entire ring area. Just rewatched it and it’s definitely an amazing match from both guys. pic.twitter.com/OsicnnsHjR

Nevertheless, Brock Lesnar’s remarks on John Cena do not relegate the latter’s legacy. The Cenation leader is the only superstar, alongside Ric Flair, with the most World Title wins. The sixteen-time World Champion is now pursuing his Hollywood career full-time.
