Carlito discusses real life heat with Shawn Michaels

Carlito discusses real life heat with Shawn Michaels. He also revealed why the Heart Break Kid did not like him, a reason he did not deny.

Carlito worked for the WWE between 2003 and 2004. The company seems to have a lot of hope for him considering he beat John Cena on his WWE debut for the United States Championship. Unfortunately, he never lived up to his potential. He also won the Intercontinental and Tag Team titles but the WWE Championship eluded him.

To many, it was obvious why that was. For all his talent, Carlito’s head did not appear to be in the game. His in-ring talent was often praised but many felt that he was unmotivated and lazy. WWE legend Shawn Michaels was one of them and he did not try to hide his dislike for the apple toting big mouth.

In a conversation with James Romero of Wrestling Shoot Interviews, Carlito revealed that the Heart Break Kid told him to his face that he didn’t like him.

“I respected Shawn Michaels because he was one of the only ones that told me to my face that he didn’t like me. I can respect that. We had a talk, he told me whatever, and I can totally respect that. I don’t pretend to be everybody’s cup of tea. I like it that instead of telling me behind my back, he told me right to my face. After that I had a lot of respect for Shawn Michaels.”

Carlito confirmed that HBK, like several others, had a problem with his work ethic; or the lack of it.

“I forgot what it was. Same story as everybody else. [Shawn Michaels thought] I was too nonchalant or I didn’t care enough or whatever. I was too… [He thought] I had my mind on other things than wrestling. Stuff like that. I was like, ‘Alright.’”

Carlito’s last WWE appearance was alongside Jeff Hardy beating Elias and Jaxson Ryker on the RAW after Royal Rumble this year. He also appeared on the Royal Rumble match. This was his first appearance after an absence of almost 11 years.

Archie is a WWE and UFC Editor/Author at the SportsRush. Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
