Io Shirai vs Dakota Kai for the NXT Women’s Championship made official for NXT TakeOver: 30 after a number one contenders match.

SummerSlam isn’t the only WWE Pay Per View lined up this month. The promotion will also feature NXT TakeOver, a day before SummerSlam. The Black and Gold brand has been featuring storylines leading up to the event with yet another title match announced tonight.

For a long time now Dakota Kai has seemed like the obvious challenger to Io Shirai’s NXT Women’s championship. Even Kai felt like the match was hers. However, Rhea Ripley took exception to the claim and the two clashed in a match with the number one contendership on the line.

Kai and Ripley faced each other in a very one sided match largely dominated by Ripley. The former NXT Women’s champion rag dolled her opponent for much of the match. Kai on her part, showed steely determination by kicking out despite looking out of it.

This was a strange narrative considering Kai is supposed to be heel and was yet booked like a plucky face. This was corrected soon after though when Mercedes Martinez attacked Ripley handing the advantage to Kai who hit the GTK for the win.

With the 3-count, Dakota Kai booked her ticket to TakeOver 30 where she will take on Io Shirai for the NXT Women’s Championship. Ripley on the other hand, looks set to continue her feud with the Robert Stone Brand.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
