Kofi Kingston compares Kofimania to Marvel Cinematic Universe

Kofi Kingston compares Kofimania to Marvel Cinematic Universe. The New Day Legend won the WWE Championship back at Wrestlemania 35.

Wrestlemania isn’t called the show of shows for nothing. The Grandest Stage of all has earned the name because it features the most memorable matches and storylines in the promotion. Kofimania is one such storyline that will be remembered for years to come.

An unfortunate injury to Mustafa Ali allowed Kofi Kingston to emerge as a fan favourite for the WWE Championship. Along with his New Day brethren, Big E and Xavier Woods, Kingston fought against all odds to earn a match against Daniel Bryan at Wrestlemania 35, where he became the first ever African-born wrestler to win the WWE Championship.

Speaking on the latest episode of Sirius XM’s Busted Open, Kofi admitted that he wasn’t supposed to be part of the original storyline. However, by the end of it, the story they told was similar to the story Marvel told through Iron Man to Avengers.

“For me, nothing will ever be the way that Kofimania was. I hate it when it comes out of my mouth because it doesn’t sound really cool when I say it. I feel like that was such a unique situation, the way the whole thing came about. We talk about storytelling in our industry and for me that was like a decade plus of story.”

“With all the chapters and the ups and downs, it was kind of like the Marvel series. Like from Iron Man all the way to Avengers. So we had a unique opportunity to build it the way that we did and a lot of it was unintentional because I wasn’t supposed to be there. I don’t know if there will be anything quite as impactful as Kofimania but who knows.”

Archie is a WWE and UFC Editor/Author at the SportsRush. Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
