In 2019, Kofi Kingston experienced the jubilation of winning the WWE Championship for the first time in his career. Kingston defeated Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35. Kofi’s path to realizing his dream was termed KofiMania at the time. But, KofiMania was short-lived, as Brock Lesnar annihilated Kingston and claimed the WWE Championship on an edition of SmackDown. According to a new report, Kofi’s loss was planned just weeks after his WrestleMania victory over Daniel Bryan.

On SmackDown’s 20th anniversary edition, Brock Lesnar handed Kofi Kingston the most embarrassing loss of his career. The Beast Incarnate vanquished the then-WWE Champion in under 10 seconds.

The match was so short that it did not sit well with the fans. The bell rang, Kofi jumped and got caught on Lesnar’s shoulders, and Lesnar finished him off with an impactful F5.

Kofi Kingston’s loss to Brock Lesnar was reportedly planned weeks after his WrestleMania win

Fightful Select reports that the WWE Championship title change was planned weeks after Kofi Kingston’s victory at the Grandest Stage. Kingston’s win over Daniel Bryan was so well-received that the WWE Universe expected the KofiMania trend to continue.

However, WWE seemingly did not see Kofi Kingston as the face of WWE. The New Day member’s embarrassing loss was heavily criticized by his fans.

“We’ve learned that Kofi Kingston being squashed by Brock Lesnar was planned just weeks after KofiMania,” reported Sean Ross Sapp.

Not just the fans, but even then-WWE superstar Daniel Bryan was upset with the outcome of the Kofi Vs Brock match on SmackDown. That was the last time that Kofi Kingston ever held the WWE Championship.

Although the 41-year-old has a decorated career in the tag team division, his fans expected to see him enjoy an extended reign as the WWE Champion. The WWE Universe took to social media to reprimand Vince McMahon and WWE for burying Kofi Kingston.

Kofi Kingston is currently out of action due to an ankle injury

Ahead of WrestleMania 39, Kofi Kingston participated in a fatal-five-way match to become the number one contender for Gunther’s IC Championship. During the match, Kingston ended up gravely injuring his ankle.

At that point, Kingston’s appearance at WrestleMania 39 was ruled out. The former WWE Champion also underwent ankle surgery ahead of the Showcase of Immortals. It is unknown when Kofi would get back in ring shape and make his return.
