Jim Ross reveals the moment he and Vince McMahon knew that the Rock would make it in Hollywood

Jim Ross reveals the exact moment both he and Vince McMahon knew that the Rock would make it big in Hollywood.

There was once a time in the WWE where The Rock seemed to be floundering. He had an impactful debut but he didn’t seem to be going anywhere after that. Those who saw his debut however, knew he had something in him and the Rock proved them right by finding his character and eventually became the biggest name in wrestling.

His acting career also mirrored his wrestling career. He made a couple of impactful appearances in the beginning before he seemed to have lost his way. The Rock would eventually find his place in Hollywood and become one of the world’s highest grossing actors. Much like his career in the WWE, there were many however, who knew he had something in him long before he became the star he is today,

Jim Ross recently revealed on the latest episode of the Grilling JR Podcast, that he and Vince McMahon went to the premier of the Scorpion King together. It was then that they knew they were witnessing the beginning of something special.

“About 10 minutes after seeing the Scorpion King. I sat next to Vince McMahon [at the theatre]. Not one word was uttered. We gained eye contact in the movie theatre at the premiere and we kind of looked at each other like, ‘I see something special here.’” JR said. “He jumped off the screen, man. It wasn’t like doing a promo or making his pie jokes, which were entertaining as s–t. But he jumped off the screen.

“When he was on screen, he was the only person you were really looking at. We knew then that there was something extraordinary about this cat. To say that I knew he was going to be where he is now, producing television shows, hits around the world, etc., making 90 million last year? No. I’m not going to bulls**t you.”

“We did know that there was something special about this guy when he appeared on that silver screen, and others, obviously much more refined about that type of thing, are seeing it also,” JR continued. “Offers were going to be piling in for a whole lot more money than we could pay, and bump free money.”

Archie is a WWE and UFC Editor/Author at the SportsRush. Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
