John Cena on why RAW Underground’s lack of creative definition is a good thing

WWE Icon and Mega Star John Cena opens up on why RAW Underground’s lack of creative definition is a good thing for the performers going ahead.

The WWE have introduced a new concept in order to combat Monday night RAW’s falling ratings in the third hour. RAW underground has been presented to the audience as a, well, underground arena with raw fights between guys who are just looking to knock each other out.

Tthere is very little else we know about the concept other than it looks like MMA meets Fight Club. However, John Cena believes that this is exactly why RAW Underground is an exciting opportunity for the roster members involved.

“[Raw Underground] is an opportunity,” Cena told Newsweek. “I think any paradigm shift, any big announcement, anything in that world that is ever-changing, constantly-pivoting, there is always a search for growth.

“It’s an opportunity, that’s exactly what it is. So, I think it needs a little bit of time to find itself. And in all things if it lacks creative definition from the top, I really hope performers embrace the unknown and they define it.

Cena then cited Stone Cold as an example of someone who took his opportunities and ran with it. He then asked the others to similarly take full advantage of the opportunity they’ve been given.

“A great example of that is Steve Austin. Steve Austin wasn’t told to be Steve Austin, but he was given a chance to speak and Stone Cold Steve Austin came out of that, and then the power of the WWE sent this dude’s personality out to everybody,” Cena continued. “That’s where we get one if not the greatest WWE superstars of all time in Stone Cold Steve Austin.

“So I see a lot of opportunities like that. You have this newer thing not a lot of people know what all of it is and that is the absolute best for anyone that is going to be in front of the camera because they can define it and they can take advantage of the opportunity.”

Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all.
