Roman Reigns pins Edge and Daniel Bryan to retain Universal Championship in the main event of Wrestlemania 37

Roman Reigns pins both Edge and Daniel Bryan at the same time to retain the WWE Universal Championship in the main event of Wrestlemania 37.

How has Roman Reigns gone from hardest to watch to the most compelling character in the WWE in just one year? If you would have told fans last year that Reigns would beat Edge and Daniel Bryan on the same night and he would be the most over, people would book you a place in a mental assylum and yet today no one is surprised.

Like the main event yesterday, this was easily the best match tonight. If Sasha Banks vs Bianca Belair was about history, Reigns vs Edge vs Bryan was about making the impossible possible. Three men, who at one point, seemed like they were done with wrestling, main eventing the biggest show of the year together. Even for a scripted show, not many ever saw this coming.

This was a furious encounter between three men that just wanted to win. There were no heels or face, there were three men chasing glory at the cost of the other.

Reigns insurance policy, Jey Uso, helped him clear the announce table but before they could use it, Bryan knocked Reigns out. Edge took Jey out with an Edgecution on the medical steps, forcing him out of the arena.

With Reigns out, Edge and Bryan took on each other for a while. Reigns latered returned but was pulled off the apron by Bryan. He then took to the top rope for a dropkick on the Royal Rumble winner.

Edge and Reigns worked together to lay out Bryan before going at it. Reigns and Edge tried to Spear each other at the same time making for a cool spot.

This allowed Bryan to get back in the match with a diving headbutt to each competitor. Bryan looked to finish the match with a Yes Lock on Reigns. Edge helped Reigns free but got caught in the submission himself. This time, Reigns repaid the favor by breaking the submission.

An emphatic finish!

Moments later, it was Edge’s turn to apply the crossface on the champion.

Daniel Bryan joined him to torture the tribal chief in a double submission spot. Reigns only survived due to Edge and Bryan fighting with each other while applying the submission.

Bryan tried taking Edge down with a Running Knee but got taken out by a Spear. Edge then speared Reigns and went for the pin but Bryan pulled the referree out of the ring. An infuriated Edge lashed out on both of them with steel chairs before taking Bryan out with a Con-Chair-To to Bryan.

Jey appeared out of nowhere before Edge could do the same to Reigns. Edge took Jey out with multiple chair shots but Reigns took advantage of the distraction and laid Edge out with a Spear. To ensure that he wouldn’t get up, he delivered a Con-Chair-To of his own to Edge.

The Universal Champion then dragged Edge’s lifeless body on top of Bryan to pin both men at the same time and retain his title.

This is easily Reigns’ best match at Wrestlemania and the perfect way to close the show. If there was any doubts about who the face of the company was, this was an emphatic way to say it’s Roman and there’s no one even close the claim.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
