Would I consider him a great actor? F— no – Dave Bautista on Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. The Guardians of The Galaxy star takes a shot at his former WWE colleagues.

Dave Bautista is one of the few WWE stars who have successfully transitioned from the squared circle to the big screen. Several have tried before from poor to mixed results and so did Bautista early on. However, after slogging for a while he finally hit it out of the park with ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and is looking to continue doing so with his latest film ‘Dune’.

Dwayne Johnson and John Cena are some other guys who have done well in Hollywood. However, Bautista doesn’t consider them to be good actors. Unlike the other two, especially Dwayne, who seems to have been typecast in action roles, Bautista wants to be a character actor.

“[The Rock and John Cena] are wrestlers who became movie stars,” Batista said. “I’m … something else. I was a wrestler. Now, I’m an actor.”

“[The] Rock was, in a way, a movie star before he was even a movie star. There is something about him that’s really special. I’d never take that away from him. Would I consider him a great actor? F— no. I want good roles. I don’t care about Fast and Furious or Bumblebee. That’s not the kind of stardom I want.

“I want to be in Dune, I want to work with Denis Villeneuve. I want to work with Sam Mendes and Jodie Foster, I want to work with Academy Award winners. I’m proud to be a character actor. I want that respect and credibility and education.”

Bautista posted the trailer of ‘Dune’ on his Instagram.

The former WWE star expressed elation at getting a phone call from Denis Villeneuve personally offering him the role.

“I have to say that getting the call from [Villeneuve], asking me personally to do this part was a monumental moment in my career. I was floored that he actually called me. When I first met him for Blade Runner 2049, he did not want me to play Sapper Morton. He was not interested in me for that part. I really had to win him over and so, to have him call me and say he had been thinking about me since that film and wanted to personally offer me this role, that to me felt like I had really earned some respect.”

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
