John Cena return date reportedly confirmed

John Cena return date reportedly confirmed. The Cenation leader is rumored to be in line for a Universal Championship match against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam.

Several reports have suggested that John Cena is on his way back to WWE. He will take on Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship in the main event of SummerSlam. This will be his first shot at the Universal title. This will also be only the second time they go head to head with each other.

His comeback was put on doubt after Variety recently reported that he will be filming for his new film Argylle in Europe in August. With SummerSlam scheduled to take place on August 21, many wondered if this meant he would miss out on the biggest party of the summer.

Turns out, not only will Cena appear on the show but we also now have a date on his possible return to the WWE. Do not read any further if you do not want to be spoiled. You have been warned.

John Cena return date reportedly confirmed

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Cena’s August movie dates aren’t an issue.

“The movie thing is not a hurdle. This is what I was told today. The movie thing’s not a hurdle, and whatever it is, I don’t know exactly what it is, but the belief is it’s all going down. So, the match is happening.”

This was corroborated by  Fightful Select, who went a step further and even gave a date on his return.

“Cena is scheduled to appear on WWE programming at some point over the next eleven days, as fans return. Fightful has been told that the working plan for Cena is for him to appear on the July 23 episode of WWE Smackdown, and possibly sooner than that.”

Cena’s last WWE appearance was against Bray Wyatt at last year’s Wrestlemania. He has been off WWE TV since. In the meantime, Reigns has had an evolution in his character work. He is currently one of the most must watch superstars on the show.

The last time they faced each other as faces, with a change in character for Reigns, not only will Cena be an interesting fodder to him but the dynamics will also be different from their last match, making this a hugely anticipated feud, even if the result is already almost a given.
