The Story so far
Samoa Joe, the defending champion has now lost the title to two different highflyers in successive pay per views. Last month he lost the championship in controversial fashion to Rey Mysterio.
Joe thrashed Mysterio after their match at Money in the Bank; The result of which saw Rey suffer a real-life injury that forced him to relinquish the championship. The Luchador handed over the championship back to Samoa Joe but the submission machine refused to let him without choking him out.
A week later, Joe had attracted attention from Ricochet, Cesaro, The Miz, Bobby Lashley and Braun Strowman. All these wrestlers wanted a chance at wearing the U.S championship on their waist. The 5 of them then took part in a fatal 5 elimination match to determine Joe’s challenger at Stomping Grounds.
Ricochet came out victorious in that match. But was immediately choked out by Samoa Joe who wanted to send a warning to him before their eventual clash. However, Ricochet had the last laugh as he left the ring with his first ever championship in WWE.
The new champion then walked backstage where he was congratulated by others backstage. A couple of the wrestlers standing there happened to be the Heavy machinery who immediately walked out for their own title match.
