WWE’s legitimate wrestling machine Kurt Angle was once one of the toughest and the most technical wrestlers of all time. Angle won a gold medal in the Olympics in 1996 with a broken “freakin” neck, debuted in WWE in 1999, and the rest is history. When it came to wrestling, it was near-impossible to wear someone like Kurt Angle down. Through the years, Angle delivered classic matches with the likes of Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, Triple H, Chris Benoit, and more.
Even after he left WWE and joined TNA, he remained at the top and ruled the promotion. The six-time WWE Champion hammered out a Gold Standard wrestling career after spending almost two decades in the business.
During his heyday in WWE, Angle was instrumental in his involvement in the late Attitude Era and the Ruthless Aggression Era. However, as shocking as it may sound, WWE initially mistook Angle for being a homosexual.
WWE superstars thought Kurt Angle was gay before his debut
In his autobiography, It’s True! It’s True!, the Hall of Famer revealed that he was misperceived as a gay man because of sharing a room with his then-wrestling manager, Dave Hawk.
According to Angle, his manager Dave Hawk came with him to Stamford to keep him company in case WWE signed him. In doing so, they shared a room and spent time together. Now before you burst into laughter, it’s worth noting that, a manager’s job is to mentor and take care of their prodigies.
Kurt Angle makes the case for being the most versatile wrestler of all time.
Can look badass.
Can look stupid.
Can be funny.
Can be unintentionally funny.
Can wrestle the WWE style.
Can wrestle the Indy style.
Can moonsault off of 25 feet cages.
Can be a GM.What else? pic.twitter.com/mki5yGilaO

The Olympic Hero recalled being “uncomfortable” about signing a deal with WWE and, so, Hawk was there to make him “feel better” and “ease some of the strain”.
He would run errands for Angle, as a manager normally does. He’d even make his protein shakes and do his laundry. Angle also recalled that the notion of him being gay came across as a “shock” to his then-fiancée Karen and Dave’s wife Tracey. We all know Kurt is as straight as his three Is’.
The wrestling legend is happily married to Giovanna Yannotti and has four children out of his wedlock.

“We roomed together in Stamford and though the other guys never told me at the time, they thought we were gay. Dave would run errands for me. It’s funny as hell to think back on it, because Dave was running around doing everything for me there. He’d make protein shakes. He’d rub down my neck. He was doing my laundry,” Stated Angle.
Kurt reminisces about his backstage segments with Brock Lesnar
Undoubtedly, Kurt Angle was always enjoyable to watch in the ring and backstage. The wrestling veteran will always be remembered for his funny backstage segments with Edge, Stone Cold, Brock Lesnar, and many more.
On January 9, Angle took to Twitter to post a video from back in the day when he was involved in a competitive storyline with his counterpart, Brock Lesnar. Both Angle and Lesnar gave the best matches ever seen and an unforgettable WrestleMania moment. Angle even defeated Brock Lesnar and The Big Show in a triple-threat match and captured the WWE Championship.
