Following a short yet enjoyable stint with AEW, former NXT General manager is set to make his WWE return. Tony Khan recently confirmed the move on the pre-ROH Final Battle media call. He revealed that they chose to honor Regal’s request not to renew his contract and allow him to return to the WWE where he could be involved with training his son, Charlie Dempsey. However, no mention was made regarding the capacity of his return and what position he would be filling.

While no official statement has come out of the WWE yet, it appears that Regal will chair a much more prestigious office than the one he left before his release. If reports are to be believed, the former Intercontinental Champion is on his way to a Vice President role!
William Regal set to make WWE return as Vice President
According to PWInsider, William Regal will return to the WWE on the very first week of January next year. More interestingly, he will do so as a Vice President. Although, there was no word on what his actual job title would be within the company.
He previously worked with the promotion as the Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting. It is possible that he will return to the same department with a promotion. However, nothing has been confirmed as of now and it is entirely possible that nothing has been decided as of yet.
William Regal and Triple H go way back. The WWE Head of Creative has in fact known the Blackpool Combat Club founder longer than he has known Shawn Michaels. Their friendship dates back to their time in WCW. However, this is not a handout. Regal has more than proven that he is worth every role that has been handed unto him so far.
Vince McMahon allowed William Regal to leave WWE early so he could join AEW
During a recent conversation with Inside The Ropes on YouTube, Regal revealed that he asked Vince McMahon if he could leave for AEW before his WWE contract ran out. Surprisingly, the then WWE Chairman was more than willing to oblige and even paid him for the remainder of his contract.
“I had a talent contract as well as an employee contract. And it didn’t run out until the end of April because I played William Regal. I started for AEW on the seventh of March,” Regal said. “I just sent a message straight to the boss. ‘Hey boss, I’ve got this opportunity. This thing Bryan [Danielson]—and [Vince] loves Bryan as well… [Vince said] ‘absolutely, you go.’ And still paid me until the end of the talent contract. So, I was the only person who ever got paid by both companies at the same time.”
Regal created the BCC during his time in AEW recruiting Jon Moxley, Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler YUTA. He was praised for his run. However, his sudden exit saw a huge drop off in the story telling with AEW having to wrap the story up as quick as possible while also writing Regal off television.
Tony Khan revealed that Regal currently has an agreement that forbids him from making an appearance on WWE television for the rest of 2023, so, it will be a while before fans will see him on their screens once again. The biggest loss for the fans in all of this, however, is that they will have to go through another WarGames without hearing Regal say it in his iconic manner.
