Dwayne Johnson Henry Cavill

Dwayne Johnson is one of the highest earners in Hollywood. In fact, he has held the mantle of the highest paid actor a number of times. However, even his salary doesn’t match the budget DC had for a computer generated cosmetic procedure they had on Henry Cavill during the Justice League movie. While the Superman actor made less than Johnson, he still ended up costing DC quite more. It is even more hilarious knowing that this money was singularly spent on the actor’s mustache.

Henry Cavill plays the role of Superman, who is a significant character in the DC Universe. Naturally, his look is very important to the franchise. Fans have long known that Cavill’s mustache was removed via CGI. However, no one expected the money they spent in doing so.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Salary for Black Adam was less than what DC spent on Henry Cavill’s mustache in Justice League

According to Fandomwire, DC spent a whopping $24 million just to have Henry Cavill’s mustache removed via CGI. This was more than the $22.5 million Dwayne Johnson made for his role in Black Adam.

The need for CGI arose after Jack Snyder decided to move away from the film following his daughter Autumn’s suicide. Joss Whedon stepped in, and this resulted in the need for reshoots. The only issue here was that Cavill had begun sporting a mustache and beard for the filming of Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

He refused to shave, forcing Whedon to rely on CGI to maintain the desired look for Superman in the movie, costing the franchise a lot more than they originally expected.

Dwayne Johnson and Henry Cavill are no longer part of DC

Dwayne Johnson’s portrayal of Black Adam was set to change the power structure in DC. The film set up an eventual encounter between Black Adam and Superman in the future. However, in the time since, both actors are no longer a part of DC’s Cinematic universe.

Henry Cavill was the first to leave of the two before Dwayne Johnson announced that Black Adam was no longer going to be a part of DC. However, they agreed to continue “exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters.”

Cavill was replaced due to filmmaker James Gunn and producer Peter Safran looking for a younger actor to take on the role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, via WION, Gunn and Safran saw Cavill as “a pawn in Dwayne’s failed attempt to control a piece of DC.”
